The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra KCO

The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra KCO will dedicate two concerts to the music of Theo Loevendie in October 2023 with English mezzo Polly Leech as a soloist. The concert will be conducted by Bas Wiegers. The orchestral version of Loevendie’s Six Turkish Folk Poems will have it’s first performance on Thursday October 12th, repeated on October 13th in combination with Loevendie’s orchestral work Flexio (1980) written for the KCO. The programms will be completed with works by Ravel and Smit, and probably Wilbert Bulsink, who studied composition with Loevendie at the Amsterdam Conservatory.

KCO Performs Flexio

December 3th and 4th 2020 the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra will perform Loevendie’s orchestral work Flexio (1980) written for the KCO.
It is the first time that the KCO performs Flexio after the premiere in 1980. In the mean time the work was performed by other orchestras.
A few years later in 1984, Loevendie received the American Koussevitzky International Record Award in a Residentie Orkest performance of Flexio conducted by Peter Eötvös. The upcoming KCO performances will be led by the dutch conductor Antony Hermus.

On Saturday April 20, a concert will take place in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam. Dedicated to music composed by Theo Loevendie.
Special attention will go to the influence of Turkish Folk Music on his output as a composer of chamber music and his acitivities in the field of jazz.
A fine selection of musicians will perform his chamber music and Loevendie’s jazz ensemble The Wellingtonians will do the same with special focus on Loevendie’s recent output as a composer being inspired by Passacaglia’s such as they appeared in the European tradition from the 13th century until today, being improvisations on a bass obstinate originally but in later centuries composed by composers such as Lully, Purcell, Rameau, Bach, Brahms and Britten.
